Global Technology Group introduces its International Gateway services and its content platform service, La La Kyi
Yangon, Myanmar, 15 December 2017 – Global Technology Group, the leading telecommunications service provider in Myanmar, introduced its International Gateway (IGW) services and its content platform service, La La Kyi, today – making the Group to be the first local-owned private IGW service provider and the leading OTT and TV platforms solutions for ASEAN market.
The roll out of Global Technology Group’s IGW services will provide secured cross-border connectivity through affordable networks for Myanmar business enterprises and high-quality internet connection with a reasonable price for Myanmar households – transforming content streaming and electronic communications between countries.
“Back in 2003, price per 1Mbps was three hundred US dollars and today it’s eight US dollars per 1Mbps. With more and more IGW service providers in the market, the prices will be even lower in the next few years. This is the first time that licenses for IGW services has been awarded to the private sector. We are currently waiting for a final check and approval from the regulator, PTD (Posts and Telecommunications Department) to go into the commercial launch soon. This IGW service will be key contribution factor for the Myanmar Digital Economy,” said U Thein Than Toe, CEO of Global Technology Group.
Global Technology Group is partnering with Cisco Systems Inc. for the development of the infrastructure for IGW services. “Southeast Asia is now the world’s third largest region for internet users — with more people online than the entire U.S. population If everyone in the country have access to the internet, it’s going to exponentially improve the economy and the education sector as well. Global Technology Group’s International Gateway services will play very important part in the digital transformation of Myanmar and the world,” said Mr. Promporn Ketudat, Director of Operations Sales, Thailand and Indochina of Cisco System Inc.
“It’s exciting to see these innovations that can develop when you combine Silicon Valley technology and Myanmar entrepreneurships. Today, we are fortunate enough to be celebrating the result of a positive collaboration. The partnership between Global Technology Group and Cisco Systems to provide international gateway services definitely indicate the growth potential of these relationships,” said Ms. Zara Dang, Executive Director of American Chamber of Commerce Myanmar.
The Group also announced that its IGW system will be connected to China and India as well as further investments in submarine cable will be carried out as part of its Phase II. Currently the IGW connectivity is a cross-border terrestrial connectivity between Myanmar and Thailand.
Additionally, as part of Global Technology Group’s plans to provide high quality video-on-demand services to Myanmar public, the Group has signed content delivery service partnerships with Silicon Valley-based Harmonic Inc., a leader in video delivery infrastructure and France-based Viacess-Orca, a global solutions provider of OTT and TV platforms.
